Part of the reason why I’m historically not great in the kitchen is because I 1. am extremely impatient and 2. have an attention span shorter than a baby oompa loompa. Sometimes I’m just so hungry, I need to stuff my face ASAP before I get angry and I don’t have time to let shit simmer, bake, sit. I hate waiiiiiting.
I’m working on these areas for improvement, but in the mean time I’ve been putting together this falafel toast that my friend Joscelyn shared with me. It’s a delicious snack, ridiculously easy to make, and takes less than 5 minutes. Just need a few ingredients and a little help from your local halal cart.
Stuff you need:
Multigrain flat bread
Broccoli Sprouts
1/2 avocado
Garlic hummus
Black pepper
Maldon salt (or any coarse salt will do)
3 falafel balls (I pay 3 for a $1 at my halal spot)
And seriously, all you do is:
1. Heat up a piece of flat bread on a non stick pan until the bottom is brown and crispy.
2. Remove from heat. Spread the hummus and avocado. Spread the broccoli sprouts evenly.
3. Cut the falafel balls in half and place them evenly on top of the flat bread.
4. Slice your toast into 6 pieces. And BOOM!
i don’t! but you’re right that would be dope. xx -S
I’ve been getting some questions in my inbox about my daily makeup routine and favorite products, so I decided to do a post dedicated to the topic! Generally I don’t wear much make up and for the most part I have no idea what I’m really doing. So my routine is pretty simple and I just do what works for me. After years of trial and error, I’ve got a small assortment of products that I am fiercely loyal to. Here it is!
1. Aveeno SPF 30 face moisturizer
2. Aveda tinted moisturizer and powder - Great for daily usage because it’s very lightweight and still evens out the skin tone. When I need more coverage, I turn to Korres for their foundation.
3. Blush - Lately I’m using this peach hue from the Hello Kitty for Mac capsule collection. I also rotate between Benefit Perfect 10 and Nars Orgasm depending on my mood!
4. Nars “Madrague” eyeshadow duo - I’m not big on eyeshadow, I’m also super lazy about it. So I slop on these nudish tones and move on.
5. Loreal Voluminous mascara - It’s all about drug store mascara, and this does the job easily.
6. Shu Uemura eyelash curler - MUST. HAVE. ALWAYS.
7. Lancome Artliner - I was terrible at applying liquid eyeliner! But this one goes on nice and easy, it has more of a marker tip than those kinds with the little brushes.
8. Clinique Cream Shaper eye liner pencils - These babies are my jam! These pencils are super creamy and smudge right on for that effortless smoky eye look.
9. *BONUS!* Kiehl’s Rare Earth facial masque - I don’t use this every day obviously, but definitely worth mentioning because I travel a lot. I’ve recently turned to this masque to get my skin back in shape when I’m feeling beat from flights, sun, lack of sleep.
10. Nars “Barbarella” lipstick - A total fave and great for the day-to-day. I do Nars “Heatwave” when I’m feeling extra sassy.
11. Laura Mercier finishing powder - It’s basically sparkles in a jar! I brush this over my cheeks for some shimmer and what the make up counter dude calls “a dewy glow.” Buy 1 of these and it will last you a lifetime. I’ve had mine for like 4 years or something.
I’m no expert by any means, so when I have questions about beauty products I turn to my beauty bawse Baze Mpinja, a seasoned beauty writer/editor and friend of mine. Check out her blog for beauty tips!
Oh snap! Got shot by Urban Outfitters during Coachella weekend 1.
When I dip you dip we dip.
I made some snacks last week, and it all started when I went home to my parents’ house in LA for a couple of days during a brief pause in my travels with the Childish Gambino tour. Whenever I go home, the first thing I do is walk into the kitchen, open the fridge, and admire how fully stocked my family’s fridge always seems to be. It’s heartwarming…worlds apart from my own fridge, which is usually a desolate abyss of yogurt, eggs, and beer.
And then I venture to the snack cabinet. This time I was completely fixated by the pretzel chips and the chocolate covered almonds. But at some point, I decided I needed to eat them together, so I’d take one chip and one chocolate covered almond and eat them in the same bite. The ultimate combination of salty and sweet! Geometrically, the shapes are incongruous, and it was pissing me off making these awkward “sandwiches.” I then knew that I needed to take matters into my own hands. DIP THAT SHIT.
I took inspiration from the chocolate covered potato chips I read about on Geri’s blog, and worked the procedure into my pretzel creation. I also decided to make chocolate dipped chips to add some variety!
Stuff you need:
Pretzel chips
Wavy Potato chips
Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Almonds
Wax Paper
The procedure is so easy. Just melt the chocolate, and then crush the almonds down in a bowl. Dip the pretzel in the melted chocolate, then into the almond meal, then lay it down on the wax paper to let it fully cool. THEN GOBBBBBBBLE GOBBBBBBLE.
Et voila! Perfect snack to bring to a friend’s party, or don’t share it at all.
thanks babe. it was one of those long tops that i tucked into shorts. top is by Ladakh.
haha. yeah, honestly my name makes me laugh. but it was meant to be silly in the first place, i suppose.
